Cardiff Muslim Medics
Est. 2016. A faith-rooted, alumni-sustained medical society at Cardiff University — and the story of how it grew.
Our history
From a study circle in a Heath Park common room to a network of 500+ Muslim medics across Wales and beyond.
A society of Muslim medics — together since 2016.
Cardiff Muslim Medics started as a group of friends who couldn't find a quiet place to pray between ISCE stations. Today, we're a registered student society at Cardiff University, with active alumni in every Welsh deanery and most major UK trusts.
We're rooted in two things: the practice of medicine, and the practice of faith. The two are inseparable for our members — and the society exists to make both possible at once during the hardest years of medical training.
Run by students.
Sustained by alumni.
- Humanitarian giving — annual graduation well through OneUmmah and orphan sponsorship.
- Faith-rooted — Islamic ethics, jum'ah space, iftar dinners, every committee.
- Specialty mentorship — matched alumni in your chosen field.
- Community health — BLS training at mosques and occasional health checkups with BIMA.
The journey
Scroll the timeline. A year of events, mentoring, and milestones — built by this cohort for the next.
The sisters host their first charity dinner — a new annual fixture bringing the community together to raise funds for the year ahead.
The brothers' flagship annual dinner — an evening of reflection, fundraising, and reconnection across current members and alumni.
A structured mentor scheme launches, pairing senior sisters with Year 2 students preparing for their ISCE exams.
A communal iftar for the sisters during Ramadan — breaking fast together in the spirit of khidmah and community.
A drop-in support session for Year 4 students — self-directed learning and ISCE preparation, with help on hand from those who have been there.
The annual data interpretation session — practical teaching on reading results and investigations for clinical exams.
The sisters celebrate their first Graduation Ball — marking the achievements of the graduating cohort in style.
The verses we return to
A society is sustained by what it remembers. These are ours.
